• Job Description: Computational Biologist Intern

    Interested in knowing what it’s like to work at the intersection of biology, software engineering, and data science? Do you want to work on projects that positively impact the world? At twoXAR, we discover lifesaving drug treatments using artificial intelligence. We are seeking a swiss-army-knife intern to work on our Discovery Science team and contribute directly to our drug discovery platform. The ideal candidate has 3+ years’ experience as a computational biologist or bioinformatician and a bachelor's degree in either biology or computer science.

    We leverage our computational platform to identify promising drug candidates, validate and de-risk them through preclinical studies, and progress candidates to the clinic through industry and investor partnerships. We have established collaborations with leading biopharmaceutical companies and are now scaling the business and building our internal drug pipeline. twoXAR is venture-backed with financing from SoftBank Ventures and Andreessen Horowitz and has strong ties to Stanford University and MIT. Our management team and advisory board have decades of biopharmaceutical management experience, built software systems used by tens of millions of people, held VP and C-level positions at Fortune 100 companies, and have had previous startups end with successful strategic acquisitions.

     

    Responsibilities Include:

    • In collaboration with a multi-talented team, design innovative and interpretable solutions to a wide diversity of hurdles in drug discovery and development
    • Leverage your cross-disciplinary training to develop understandable software to holistically model a disease
    • Exact responsibilities will depend on timing and background, but will likely include developing:
    • clear and intuitive data visualizations
    • scalable data processing
    • efficient and interpretable algorithm implementations
    • Review experiment with both internal and external algorithms and approaches to optimize our solutions
    • Using our platform, build disease-specific models, including annotating data and running algorithms


    Required Skills:

    • Comfortable developing in Python using common packages like Numpy, Scipy, etc.
    • Basic understanding of cellular and molecular biology
    • Experience in machine learning is a significant plus
    • Familiarity with Agile methodology is a plus
       

    Qualifications:

    • BS in computer science or a biomedical field
    • 3+ years’ as a computational biologist or bioinformatician
    • Startup minded: high energy, low maintenance, self-starter that is comfortable in a fast-paced environment
