• Job Description: Research Scientist Contractor (Full-time)

Did you start in science because you wanted to find a discovery that would positively impact the world? Are you now tired of working on research that seems like it will never translate to the clinic? At twoXAR, we use artificial intelligence to discover lifesaving drug treatments at blazing speed. We are seeking a scientist to work on our Discovery Science team and contribute directly to our drug discovery programs. The ideal candidate is an experienced biomedical researcher with extensive knowledge of pharmacology who is interested in harnessing that knowledge towards discovering novel treatments for a wide diversity of diseases.

twoXAR is an artificial intelligence-driven drug discovery company

We leverage our computational platform to identify promising drug candidates, validate and de-risk them through preclinical studies, and progress remaining candidates to the clinic through industry and investor partnerships. We have established collaborations with leading biopharmaceutical companies and are now scaling the business and building our internal drug pipeline. twoXAR is venture-backed with financing from SoftBank Ventures and Andreessen Horowitz and has strong ties to Stanford University and MIT. Our management team and advisory board have decades of biopharmaceutical management experience, built software systems used by tens of millions of people, held VP and C-level positions at Fortune 100 companies, and have had previous startups end with successful strategic acquisitions.

    Responsibilities:

    • Examine and prioritize candidate treatments identified by computation in a range of diseases, including oncology, autoimmune, metabolic, dermatology, and ophthalmology
    • Perform extensive literature and patent review of candidates:
      • investigate potential mechanisms for predicted candidate molecules specific to the disease of interest
      • compare candidate MOAs to preclinically or clinically tested MOAs to evaluate candidate’s novelty
      • evaluate a candidate’s ADME and PK/PD data
    • Prioritize candidate drugs by consolidating literature review evidence, while also appropriately referencing and indexing all literature findings related to candidate molecules
    • Effectively communicate (written and verbal) and defend research internally
    • Further responsibilities could include:
      • Building AI-disease-models, which includes inspecting and annotating disease-specific biomedical data, running our proprietary algorithms, and evaluating results
      • General analysis and interpretation of data from a wide range and type of preclinical experimental studies

    Requirements:

    • Extensive understanding of pharmacology as well as cellular and molecular biology
    •  Prior experience in a pharmaceutical R&D environment is a very significant plus
    • No computational experience is necessary, though familiarity with big data and bioinformatics is a plus
    •  Demonstrated ability to rapidly learn new concepts
    • Full-time availability, including occasional on-site availability in Mountain View

    Qualifications:

    • PhD, MD, or PharmD (complete or late-stage candidate)
    • 5+ years of independent biomedical research
    • Startup minded: high energy, low maintenance, self-starter that is comfortable in a fast-paced environment
    • Cultural fit: genuine, collaborative, innovative, data-driven, and goal-oriented
