• Job Description: Research Scientist Consultant

    Did you start in science because you wanted to find a discovery that would positively impact the world? Are you now tired of working on research that seems like it will never translate to the clinic? Are you interested in knowing what it’s like to work at biotech startup? At twoXAR, we discover lifesaving drug treatments using artificial intelligence. We are seeking a scientist to work on our Discovery Science team and contribute directly to our drug discovery programs. The ideal candidate is an experienced biomedical researcher with extensive knowledge of cellular biology who is also interested in harnessing that knowledge towards discovering novel treatments for a diversity of diseases.

    We leverage our computational platform to identify promising drug candidates, validate and de-risk them through preclinical studies, and progress remaining candidates to the clinic through industry and investor partnerships. We have established collaborations with leading biopharmaceutical companies and are now scaling the business and building our internal drug pipeline. twoXAR is venture-backed with financing from SoftBank Ventures and Andreessen Horowitz and has strong ties to Stanford University and MIT. Our management team and advisory board have decades of biopharmaceutical management experience, built software systems used by tens of millions of people, held VP and C-level positions at Fortune 100 companies, and have had previous startups end with successful strategic acquisitions.

    Responsibilities include​

    • Examine and prioritize candidate treatments identified by computation in a range of diseases, including oncology, autoimmune, dermatology, and ophthalmology
    • Perform extensive literature and patent review of candidates:
      • investigate potential mechanisms of action
      • (MOA) for predicted candidate drugs specific to the disease of
      • interest compare candidate MOAs to preclinically or clinically tested MOAs to evaluate candidate’s novelty 
      • evaluate a candidate’s ADME and PK/PD data, as applicable
    • Prioritize candidate drugs by consolidating literature review evidence
    • Appropriately reference and index all literature findings related to drug candidates
    • Effectively communicate (written and verbal) and defend research internally


    • Extensive understanding of cellular and molecular biology
    • Prior experience in a pharmaceutical R&D environment is a significant plus
    • Demonstrated ability to rapidly learn new concepts
    • Part-time availability, approximately 10-15 hours/week, including occasional on-site availability in Mountain View


    • PhD., MD, or PharmD (complete or late-stage candidate)
    • 3+ years of independent biomedical research
